The photographic journey of GILBERT W. ARIAS, a Seattle/Tacoma based Photojournalist..

In 2009, like so many of my newspaper colleagues I found myself unemployed after the 146-yr-old newspaper I worked at closed its doors and moved to a web only edition. Some 12-years later I find I’m still mourning the loss of another great American industry, the daily newspaper.

Skateboarding Meca

This was a self-assigned photo essay that I produced for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer
In 2004 local skateboarders faced with the closure of their favorite skate parks began the task of building a DIY park located on a section of abandon city land below the roadway of the Seattle viaduct.
Today The Marginal Way Skate Park has become the premiere skate park in the Northwest and the Mecca for skaters and visitors from around the world.
