The photographic journey of GILBERT W. ARIAS, a Seattle/Tacoma based Photojournalist..

In 2009, like so many of my newspaper colleagues I found myself unemployed after the 146-yr-old newspaper I worked at closed its doors and moved to a web only edition. Some 12-years later I find I’m still mourning the loss of another great American industry, the daily newspaper.

CLASSIC WINTER RAINBOW

This photo was made while fly-fishing for giant rainbows on the upper Columbia River in mid-March of 2008. It was classic a Northwest winter day, the weather was cold and there was a fresh layer of snow on the ground. GILBERT W. ARIAS…COPYRIGHT 2016

FLASH BACK

1994…A slow news day so my assignment editor asked me to head over the Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma WA and see if I could make a picture of one of their new exhibits… I remember the event its self was not all that exciting, but I was able to make respectable pix for the next day’s paper.
Afterwards I made my way over to the Rocky Shores Exhibit and after a few minutes made this wonderful photo of “ET” a 3300lb Pacific Walrus interacting with a young visitor.
